What we Believe
What is a Baptist?
The Baptist Union is primarily a Union of Baptist Churches which was formed in 1882 within New Zealand. Its general objectives are “the extension of the Kingdom of God, the strengthening of all associated churches, and the cultivation among its people of respect and love for one another and all who love the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Each Baptist Church is autonomous in its government and decision making which is made through its own members. The Union is a federation of churches which follow the common beliefs based on the Articles of Faith outlined below.
  1. The inspiration of the Bible and its authority in all matters of faith and practice
  2. The true humanity and Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
  3. The atonement by our Lord on the cross for the sin of the world
  4. Salvation by faith in Christ alone
  5. Membership in the Christian Church for the regenerate
  6. The immersion of believers as the only scriptural form of baptism
